Cathedral Eye Clinic

The Cathedral Eye Clinic was opened on the 24th of June 2008 by Ms Margaret Ritchie MLA, The Minister for Social Development. The Cathedral Eye Clinic is a purpose built ophthalmic facility that provides optimal treatment for the benefit of the patient and is a leading provider of ophthalmology services to the Northern Ireland Health and Social Services Boards.

The location of Cathedral Eye Clinic ties in with our pioneering ethos. We are one of the first healthcare facilities to be located in the regeneration area of Belfast’s Cathedral Quarter. The Clinic is attached to the newly refurbished York street campus of the University of Ulster with whom exciting corneal research is being carried out.

Today there are a myriad of options available when it comes to eye-care and treatment, with many providers claiming to offer quality treatments… so how do you know who to trust? How do you minimise your exposure to risk?

The answer is simple. You need to trust the person who is ultimately responsible for your eyes; your chosen consultant ophthalmic surgeon.

SURGEON

This is where the Cathedral Eye Clinic can put your mind at ease. Cathedral eye clinic works with local Northern Ireland consultant ophthalmic surgeons all of whom are experts in their own fields.

  • Every aspect of your care within the clinic is overseen by a consultant surgeon.
  • The consultant surgeon will draw up a tailor made treatment plan for the individual patient given the results of the consultation. Depending on the patients needs theese include
    • Laser and refractive surgery
    • Cataract surgery
    • Anterior segment surgery
    • Medical and surgical retinal treatments
    • Oculoplastic surgery
    • Or other forms of ophthalmic surgery

This range of medical expertise enables the clinic to treat the eye conditions that may not be suitable for standard refractive surgery in other clinics. For example, Professor Johnny More specializes in treating difficult corneal and anterior segment problems using the most up-to-date laser platmforms and intraocular lens technologies available in the world today. New treatments for the management of keratoconus, such as automated mechanical lamellar surgery, intacs and crosslinking are available.

We provide total eye care and work with ophthalmologists to cover all the ophthalmic sub-scpecialities.

Following treatment the Cathedral Clinic guarantees an emergency on call consultant 24/7.

The broad range of available treatments enable cathedral eye clinic to propose only those treatments wich are the most appropriate to the individual patient rather than simply providing laser treatments.

“We aim throug the synthesis of our respective talents to provide a service of the highest standards to the people of the entire Island”– Proffesor Johnny Moore
